- Aamir Khan Says No to Selling Digital Rights For His Films While They Are in Theaters; What’s The New Strategy of ‘Mr. Perfectionist’?
Actor Aamir Khan does not want to sell digital rights of his films. The Dangal actor revealed that he wants his film to have a good run in the theatres before hitting on OTT platforms.
Actor Aamir Khan has constantly paved the way for fresh trends within the cinema industry in India. Back in the 2000s, he devoted his time to one film project, thereby changing the marketing game of films. As per the news on Pinkvilla, Aamir recently made a bold move as a producer choosing not to let go of the digital rights of his soon-to-release movie until it finishes its run in theatres.

The report read, “Aamir doesn’t want to pre-sell the digital rights of his films. His vision is to revive the social comedy genre by keeping it exclusive for the big screen for at least 12 weeks (sic).” The report further added, “He will sell the digital rights only after the release of the film in the cinema halls. While the digital medium is keeping the box-office clause in the contract, Aamir is willing to sell and value his film based on the audience reception to the content on theatrical release (sic).”
Aamir Khan tends to wait a good 8 weeks before releasing his movies digitally following their theater run. This approach seems to stem from his latest venture, ‘Laapataa Ladies’, which was brought to life alongside his ex-wife Kiran Rao and Jio Studios. Notably, the film hit the halls on the 1st of March, following its showcase at various film festivals and going through a comprehensive promotional stint all across India.
