India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, announced on Saturday that he had met with Jim Taiclet, Chairman and CEO of the American aerospace and defense giant Lockheed Martin, to discuss opportunities for industrial cooperation between New Delhi and Washington in this sector.
According to the Indian news agency ANI News, the ambassador stated in a post on the platform X that the meeting resulted in “extremely fruitful discussions” on U.S.–India industrial collaboration.
For its part, Lockheed Martin issued a statement on its official website affirming that it has maintained a long-standing partnership with India.
The company recalled that it opened a branch in New Delhi in 2008 and supports the Indian government’s initiatives to encourage industrial investment within the country.
The statement highlighted that one of the most notable partnerships between Lockheed Martin and India involves the operation of C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, noting that the Indian Air Force operates a fleet of twelve aircraft of this model.
According to the statement, this cooperation represents the first major military contract between the United States and India in more than forty years.
The company also emphasized its global reputation in the fields of security, aerospace, and aviation, as well as its involvement in research, design, development, manufacturing, integration, and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products, and services.
Furthermore, the Indian agency recalled that Lockheed Martin’s CEO met last year with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Washington.
During that meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense and industrial sectors, in the presence of India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
