South Korea announces evaluation of its humanitarian projects in Afghanistan

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that its special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan will review and assess South Korea’s humanitarian projects in Afghanistan in collaboration with international organizations.

On Friday, October 18, the ministry released a statement about a virtual meeting with representatives from humanitarian offices in Afghanistan.

The statement highlighted that these projects have been implemented in Afghanistan through international organizations.

The meeting included representatives from international organizations such as the World Food Programme, UNICEF, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the UN Population Fund (UNFPA), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

According to the report, representatives of these international organizations expressed gratitude for South Korea’s humanitarian support. They emphasized that these contributions have made a tangible impact on improving the lives of the Afghan people.

South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reassured that the country would continue its support to address Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis. The aid is focused on tackling food insecurity, responding to natural disasters, supporting vulnerable groups like women and children, and assisting refugees and internally displaced people.

The ministry also stressed that it would ensure these projects’ transparent and effective implementation.

Reports indicate that from 2021 to 2023, the South Korean government has provided a total of $74 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through these international organizations.

As the people of Afghanistan’s needs continue to grow, South Korea’s ongoing support, in coordination with global partners, remains crucial in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

This support addresses urgent issues like food shortages, displacement, and protecting vulnerable populations.
