The event was designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical observation. It happened from September 30 to October 5 and it featured Grade 9 learners from different schools.

It aimed at bridging the gap between society and science, offering students a unique opportunity to explore various STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, careers.

Environmental education specialist Molielie Moonyane stated that the event was a resounding success, providing students with firsthand experience from specialists across different fields. Attendees had the chance to interact with professionals who shared insights about their careers and the educational paths necessary for pursuing them.

“The kids were privileged to engage with experts and learn about the subjects they need to focus on at the tertiary level,” Moonyane noted. The event featured a stimulating array of exhibits, including demonstrations from aviation departments and hands-on robotics activities.

The learners had a chance to add attachments in robotics.

Learners were encouraged to ask questions and explore the practical applications of technology in their daily lives, fostering a deeper understanding of how science influences various sectors.

Moreover, the engagement did not stop there. Many students expressed their interest in entering competitions such as the Enviro Science Fair, where they can apply their newfound knowledge and skills.

Moonyane emphasized the importance of these interaction. “The event was beneficial in guiding students as they prepare to select their subjects for the upcoming academic year. The overarching goal of this annual event is to cultivate a society that is not only knowledgeable about science but also capable of engaging critically with scientific and technological developments.”

By closing the gap between science and society, JCPZ and its partners aim to empower South Africans to form informed opinions on scientific matters.

Furthermore the event set the standard for, not just an educational experience, but also a stepping stone for the youth of Johannesburg toward a future where they can confidently navigate the realms of science and technology.

Through such programs, the hope remains that the next generation will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
