After a long wait to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cher has finally added yet another honour to her already extensive list of accomplishments.

As an icon who had never been featured on a Hall of Fame ballot before this, the American musician had her fair share of frustrations about the Hall of Fame. At one point, she even publicly declared that she was going to reject the opportunity to be inducted even if they came and finally offered it to her.

However, following the news of her actual nomination, Cher retracted her comments and revealed that her acceptance would include a speech that would vent her complaints about how the Hall of Fame has neglected her all these years.

While Cher’s induction speech didn’t exactly have the kind of material she promised, the singer used the platform to reflect on her illustrious career and the impact she has had on the industry.

She said, “When I was four years old, I saw Cinderella, and that’s what I knew I wanted to be. I wanted to sing, and I wanted to make people happy, and I wanted to have fun, and I wanted to be famous. I’m not sure how a child knows about being famous, but I do. I had a crazy, amazing mother. She said to me, ‘You know, you might not be the prettiest, you might not be the smartest, you might not be the most talented, but you’re special.’”

Adding, “Honestly, I believe what my mom said, but I’m lucky. I’ve had really bad things happen. I was dropped by four labels. When it was completely over, I did Believe, and it was like, ‘Yes!’ I [have] just been really lucky, and I have had number ones for seven decades, which surprises me because I’m a good singer, you know, I’m a good singer. I’m not a great singer. You know what? I’ll take it. And also, I changed the sound of music forever, all right? And Believe really changed the sound of music.”

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction might just be another entry on a list that includes Oscar, Grammy, and Emmy wins, but it clearly means a lot to Cher, who has been waiting for this for years.
