4,082 candidates registered for iSkills Pass since its inception – Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo

Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo said that 4,082 candidates have registered for the iSkills Pass since its inception.

PN MP Mario de Marco made a parliamentary question to Bartolo asking how many people have applied for the iSkills Card since its introduction.

Bartolo said that 4,082 candidates have registered for the iSkills Pass. He said that the pass is divided into two phases:

He said that the first phase is completed by each registrant and is conducted online. 92% of applicants have passed this phase, which includes the Basic Maltese Tourism Product Course and exam, the Basic Customer Care Course and exam, the Essential English for Hospitality Course and Exam, the English Proficiency Test and an exam according to the job position (Housekeeping, Bar Staff, Kitchen Staff, Food and Beverage Service, Front Office, or Others).

Bartolo said that the second phase includes an interview conducted with online assessors, and candidates attend this interview at the VFS Centre of their choice or at ITS itself.

This phase is taken by those applying for their first work permit to work in Malta and those who have been working in Malta for less than a year. 47% did not pass this phase.

Bartolo said that therefore, 51% of all applicants did not pass to obtain the Skills Pass.

The applicants primarily come from countries such as Nepal, India, Colombia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Serbia, Albania, United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka, Bartolo said.
