  • Dr Timothy Antoine (ECCB) and Simon Stiell (UNFCCC) are also attending
  • Minister Cornwall expected to attend G-24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, and Caribbean Caucus Meeting

Finance Minister Dennis Cornwall and Chevanne Britton, Deputy Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, are Grenada’s participants in the 2024 World Bank Annual Meetings which are being held in Washington, DC from 21–26 October.

The 2 are included in the participant list for the meeting which is posted on the World Bank’s website. Two Grenadians representing other institutions at the one-week event are Dr Timothy Antoine, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), and Simon Stiell Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The meeting brings together influential leaders from government, business, international organisations, civil society, and academia. The annual meetings serve not only as a forum for international dialogue but also empower the World Bank’s institutions — the International Development Association (IDA), International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency — to provide better support for member countries.

The annual meetings are a platform for leaders and policymakers to discuss and strategise on global economic issues and an opportunity to advance the agenda on poverty reduction, international economic development, and climate change.

Cornwall will be among several Caribbean finance ministers attending where they will discuss ways the organisation works towards achieving and collaborating on a range of issues related to poverty reduction, international economic development and finance, building human capital, and strengthening resilience.

“The primary opportunity to bolster awareness and participation on these topics and advance the agenda on key issues is through the Spring and Annual Meetings,” said the About Us section of the World Bank website.

Minister Cornwall is expected to participate in G24 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting, and the Caribbean Caucus Meeting.
