With the commitment to fully implement the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Madhya Pradesh State Government has decided to conduct a statewide ‘SDG Assessment Plan’ for the next 5 years, from 2025 to 2030, with an aim to establish a social, economic, and environmental balance.

The total expenditure on the five-year plan would be around Rs 19.10 crore, divided into Rs 3.82 crore for each year.

Under the scheme, the localisation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of SDGs would be ensured at the state, district, and development block levels. All districts in the state will be ranked through a dashboard, based on their Sustainable Development Goals and their indicators.

As an incentive to encourage adherence to the plan, prize money will be distributed to the top two performing districts according to the dashboard-based ranking system.

The district securing first position will be provided with an annual financial assistance of Rs 1 crore and the district securing second position will be provided with Rs 75 lakh. The selected districts would be able to use the prize money to improve any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, keeping in mind their specific needs.

To assist the districts of the state that have a poor performance in the ranking, they will be included in the mainstream of development with the help of welfare schemes running in the state. This would help in the overall development of the state.

The state government has prepared a vision document titled, ‘Developed Madhya Pradesh @ 2047’, as part of its commitment to fulfil the SDGs. The document presents a concrete plan for the long-term sustainable development of the state.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav has expressed strong hope that the state’s ADG Assessment Plan will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the state’s commitment to implementing the SDGs.

“The ‘SDG Assessment Plan’ will be crucial in laying the foundation for the creation of a sustainably developed Madhya Pradesh and a sustainably developed India”, the CM asserted today.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), also known as Global Goals, are 17 international goals set by the United Nations (UN) in 2015, with the target to be achieved globally by 2030. The main objective of the SDGs is to establish social, economic and environmental balance. The UN adopted them as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The SDGs are also designed to end hunger, HIV/AIDS, and discrimination against women and girls.

According to the UN, the 17 SDGs are integrated, recognising that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

As per the UN, the 17 SDGs include No poverty, Zero hunger, Good health and well-being, Quality education, Gender equality, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable and clean energy, Decent work and economic growth, Industry, innovation and infrastructure, Reduced inequalities, Sustainable cities and communities, Responsible consumption and production, Climate Action, Life below water, Life on land, Peace, justice, and strong institutions, and Partnerships for the goals.
