Everything We Know About Christopher Nolan’s Next Film

Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan has created a new buzz around his upcoming film by casting none other than Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland.

Not that Nolan needs much hype for his projects after his 2023 movie, Oppenheimer, was the third-highest grossing movie of the year and won seven Academy Awards, including one for the director himself.

But it was this week revealed Nolan was in talks to secure Holland after already signing up Matt Damon for the untitled project.

Set to begin filming in early 2025, the movie will be released on IMAX on July 17, 2026, according to a report in Deadline.

Nolan who moved on from making films with Warner Bros after an almost 20-year relationship, will produce this film with Universal Pictures, which also made Oppenheimer.

An October article in The Hollywood Reporter suggested that Nolan’s next movie will not be a “a big screen take on 1960s British series The Prisoner, an endeavor Nolan contemplated in the 2000s,” as had been previously rumored.

The director has worked with Damon on two previous projects including Interstellar and in Oppenheimer, where Damon played the director of the Manhattan Project.

It will be a big 12 months for Holland who has just finished a successful West End run of a stage production of Romeo and Juliet in London and after working with Nolan, will shoot a fourth Spider-Man film in 2025.

Oppenheimer told the story of theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is often dubbed “father of the atomic bomb,” and worked as part of the secret Manhattan Project which developed the first atomic bomb. The project’s work would be replicated in the atomic bombs dropped on Japan in World War II, which were the first and last time atomic bombs have been used in warfare.

Oppenheimer featured a star-studded cast including Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett and Kenneth Branagh.

The director reflected on Oppenheimer’s big wins at the box office and during awards season.

“It’s always a tricky thing to try to analyze the zeitgeist or analyze success. We were really interested and excited, in particular, to see young people responding to a piece of history,” Nolan told The Associated Press in January.

“I keep coming back to the unique nature of the story. I think it is one of the great American stories. It encompasses so much that’s important and dramatic about our history. That gives audiences a lot to hang to, when you get a great group of actors and incredible cast like we have, you can make this feel real and emotionally accessible. That’s as far as I can analyze its success. Beyond that, sometimes you catch a wave and it’s a wonderful and unique thing.”

Other movies directed by Nolan include Insomnia, Inception, Dunkirk, Tenet and several Batman movies.
