BETHESDA, Md. (7News Sports) — It’s been said time and time again. Katie Ledecky is a really good swimmer.
14 Olympic medals. Nine of them are gold. In fact, Ledecky is the most decorated American woman in Olympic history.
This amazing athlete is an even better person.
On Tuesday morning, Ledecky returned as a community hero to where it all started. Stone Ridge School.

She was back on campus at her alma mater, holding three different assemblies for the student body and faculty.
7News Sports Director Scott Abraham was one of the few media members invited to this special day. Abraham was able to catch up with Ledecky after the event.
“Lots of great memories. A lot of great memories with my classmates and teachers,” Ledecky told Abraham. “I just wanted to share some of my stories. Share some of the things that I’ve learned through my Olympic journey, through my time at Stone Ridge. Share how some of the things that I learned here have contributed to my success.”
Ledecky showcasing her success with the four Olympic medals she won in Paris draped around her neck. The students came away inspired.
“It was so special. It was really like such an honor to meet her,” Stone Ridge student Caroline Davey said. “She’s such an inspiration and someone who I look up to.”
Role model. Motivator.
Ledecky’s not done yet.
“I’ve been able to catch my breath a little bit here and there and reflect on this past summer, this past Olympic cycle, the journey to Paris,” Ledecky said. “I’m going to keep going so it’s going to be a fun few years and definitely some challenges along the way too.”
Ready to dive in the pool again with L.A. 2028 on the horizon.
