New Netflix Movie Trailer Teases a Love Connection Between Laura Dern & Liam Hemsworth

A trailer has dropped for the new Netflix film, Lonely Planet, and it shows a spark between its two lead characters, played by Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth, per The Hollywood Reporter. Dern stars as a novelist named Katherine, who is a bit of a recluse and is looking to overcome writer’s block. The character ends up at a writer’s retreat in Morocco where she meets Owen, played by Hemsworth, who is at the retreat with his girlfriend. The pair unexpectedly find a connection with each other.

Lonely Planet premieres on Netflix Oct. 18, but the trailer was released this week. “I think the point of travel is to show us the tiny place we occupy in the world,” Katherine tells Owen in the trailer. Later, Owen is overheard being told, “When you’re stuck in life, you need to do something irrevocable.” The end of the clip hints to audiences that Katherine and Owen’s connection is growing. Netflix teased the couple will have an “intoxicating, life-altering love affair.”

Susannah Grant directed the movie, and previously worked with Netflix on the Unbelievable drama series. Liza Chasin of 3dot Productions and Grant and Sarah Timberman are producing the film.

Dern and Hemsworth’s Other Projects

Dern is currently in the Max series Big Little Lies where she portrays Renata Klein. She also famously starred in Jurassic Park and other movies in the franchise as Ellie Stattler. Dern recently had an uncredited voice cameo in The White Lotus on Max.

Earlier this year, it was announced Hemsworth will join the cast of The Witcher for Season 4 of the Netflix series. He will play Geralt of Rivia, a role previously held by Henry Cavill. Hemsworth will also continue the role in the fifth and final season of the show. The new seasons of The Witcher are currently in production.

Additionally, an under-the-radar Hemsworth film, Paranoia, was added to Max this month. The film also stars Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford and Amber Heard. The 2013 film was loosely based on a 2004 novel by Joseph Finder that focuses on the world of corporate espionage.
