Disney Is Releasing Two New Predator Movies in 2025

It sounds like fans can get excited about two new Predator movies in 2025, one in theaters and one on streaming. It was recently confirmed that Predator: Badlands would take over the November 7, 2025, release date that Disney had previously saved for Blade. Predator: Badlands is a post-apocalyptic entry that hails from Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed the Hulu prequel Prey, and stars Elle Fanning. It also marks the franchise’s return to the big screen after Prey was sent straight to streaming.

While the Predator will return to theaters, he still has a place in streaming. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, President of 20th Century Studios Steve Asbell revealed that two Predator movies will be released in 2025; one is the theatrical Predator: Badlands, but the other is what Asbell describes as “a secret Predator movie that will come out before the theatrical one.” Asbell did reveal that Dan Trachtenberg directed both Predator films. Regarding the upcoming “secret” Predator film, Asbell said:

“I’ll tell you very simply. After
Prey
became a success, Dan [Trachtenberg] came back and said he didn’t want to do
Prey 2
. And we’re like, “What do you want to do?” And he rattled off a bunch of ideas that were really crazy but really cool. We’ve actually done two of them. Two are coming out next year. One I can’t talk about yet, but the other one is the live-action
Predator
film with Elle Fanning that just wrapped in New Zealand. That’ll be out theatrically sometime next year.”

Now, the obvious assumption is that the other Predator movie is Prey 2. Despite Asbell saying that Trachtenberg didn’t want to do Prey 2, it was already confirmed to be in development earlier this year alongside Predator: Badlands. It was also confirmed that Trachtenberg would direct Prey 2. With Prey having been a hit on Hulu, it would make sense for a direct sequel or a film closely related to that to be another streaming film. This also sounds similar to Tractenberg’s original plan for Prey, which was to keep the movie a secret Predator film until after it came out. Just like with Prey, the surprise has been spoiled.

Is the Secret Movie a New Alien vs. Predator?

It will be interesting to see how far in advance the streaming Predator movie comes out before Predator: Badlands, and how long of a marketing campaign it will have. Will 20th Century Studios pull a Cloverfield Paradox and take out a Superbowl ad announcing a surprise same-day release? They could time it for a big Predator panel at next summer’s Comic-Con, so fans could get a look at Predator: Badlands before the new Predator film drops on Hulu. Releasing two Predator films in one year is undoubtedly risky, particularly with one being sent to streaming and another being theatrical. Conventional business wisdom would suggest that would not only dilute the brand but also confuse audiences, making them feel they need to watch one Predator movie on streaming to understand the new one in theaters. However, making the streaming film Prey 2 would create a clear distinction between the two Predator films in 2025.

With Predator: Badlands confirmed to take place in the future, it might be setting the stage for a crossover with Alien: Romulus in a future AVP film.
