Former India captain Kapil Dev changed the face of the sport in the country, leading the nation to their first-ever World Cup title against all odds in 1983. But did you know, Kapil Dev and rest of his 1983 World Cup-winning teammates used to get a match fees of Rs 1500 only.

Compare that to the current cricketer like Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma, who get 1,000 times of that amount – Rs 15 lakh per Test match to be exact. However, since then Kapil Dev has built a massive net worth for himself which can compete with the best of cricketers around the world.

According to media reports, Kapil Dev’s current net worth is around $30 million or over Rs 252 crore approximately. The biggest source of earnings for Kapil Dev is brand endorsements, even many years after his retirement. Kapil is also often involved in cricket commentary and earning for advertisements also competes with the best in the business.

Kapil still endorses brands like AIPL ABRO, Palmolive and Boost and gets about Rs 20 to 30 lakh per year from each of those brands. The former India all-rounder makes a yearly around Rs 12 crore from his various jobs as a commentator, TV presenter and public appearances. Kapil Dev and his wife Romi stay in a massive bungalow in the upscale Delhi locality of Sundar Nagar. The bungalow is in close vicinity of the Delhi Golf Club where the former cricketer spends a lot of his time post retirement.

Kapil’s bungalow in Sunder Nagar had Bharat Petroleum as tenants on the first floor. But after India’s victory in the 1983 World Cup, BPCL were convinced to vacate the premises so that Kapil and his wife could move into the bungalow.
