IUCN: Bibhab Kumar Talukdar Receives Prestigious IUCN Conservation Award | Guwahati News

Guwahati: Assam’s conservation scientist Bibhab Kumar Talukdar was conferred ‘The Harry Messel Award’ for conservation leadership by the Species Survival Commission (SSC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) .
Talukdar was conferred the award on Oct 25 at the 5th IUCN SSC leaders’ meeting in Abu Dhabi, where over 300 conservation experts came together in the IUCN SSC meeting to tackle the intertwined crises of biodiversity and climate change.
The award was presented to him for his contribution to species conservation on the ground and through leadership as part of the work of the SSC. He has been associated with IUCN SSC since 1991 and became the chair of the Asian Rhino specialist group in 2008.
Talukdar is the founder secretary general and the CEO of northeast India’s premier research-driven biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak. Having published over 70 scientific papers, Talukdar has coordinated over 60 projects in last 25 years.
