Forum empowers young Bidayuh graduates to contribute to society

KUCHING (Oct 28): The inaugural Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA)-Sarawak Bidayuh Graduates Association (BGA) Forum 2024, held at DBNA headquarters here on Oct 26, saw the participation of over 250 community leaders, young graduates and professionals.

Titled ‘Empowering Success Beyond Education’, the forum aimed to foster growth within the Bidayuh community and empower young graduates, said DBNA in a statement yesterday.

Among the participants were forum patron Datuk Amar Michael Manyin, state Transport Deputy Minister Datuk Henry Harry Jinep; DBNA president cum forum advisor Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, DBNA vice president cum organising chairman Dr Clarence Jerry, and BGA president Prof Dr Andrew Henry Ragai.

The presence of the prominent leaders in the forum further highlighted their roles towards inspiring the Bidayuh graduates to contribute to the society, said the statement.

In his keynote address, Manyin stressed on the importance of understanding values, passion and purpose as cornerstones of a fulfilling career.

He highlighted three core keys – values, purpose, and passion, as the principles that shape a rewarding career.

“A career that aligns with values tends to ensure ethical satisfaction and personal integrity, while having a purpose provides a broader meaning and direction, making daily tasks feel significant and worthwhile.

“Passion, on the other hand, fuels energy and enthusiasm, driving performance and persistence. When all three align in a career, individuals experience a profound sense of fulfillment, motivation, enthusiasm, and success,” he said.

Author and columnist Datuk Dr Johan Ariffin Samad, who was among the notable speakers, spoke about cultural intelligence and its significance in today’s globalised world.

His insights encouraged attendees to embrace adaptability and respect for cultural diversity in their careers.

The forum also invited Petroleum Sarawak Berhad former chief executive officer Datuk Sauu Kakok to share his invaluable work experience with the graduates, as well as an expert in organisational leadership Datu Dr Michael Dosim Lunjew.

Dr Abdul Rahman Deen, an experienced educator, meanwhile, captivated the audience with his insights on building self-confidence and beliefs in one’s potential.

“A PhD candidate in Chemical Engineering, Calvin Jose Jol; PhD candicate in Business Studies specialising in rural tourism, Emily Rogos; together with Applied Linguistics graduate Leonardo Ginyun also shared their insights on their fields of expertise, sparking discussions on sustainable innovation, career development, cultural heritage, and language preservation.”

In his closing remarks at the event, Manyin expressed his gratitude to the organising committee and everyone involved in the hosting of the forum.

He emphasised the importance of supporting such an initiative to empower the future generations.
