The Corrales Historical Society is hosting La Música de Corrales Fiesta: Then and Now this weekend.

The fiesta, which runs Nov. 2-3, will be a lively program of individual and group performances by musicians showcased at the Historic Old San Ysidro Church.

According to a press release, the fiesta will celebrate “over 50 years of traditional and contemporary music that generations of Corraleños and friends have produced and performed.” Along with the new, it will include the “centuries-old music of New Mexico that has shaped our culture and continues to unite the community.”

Throughout the weekend, vintage instruments will be on display, including the hurdy gurdy and glass armonica.

Saturday’s program will showcase traditional music in Spanish and English.

New Mexican musical artforms performed will include corridos, Ladino or Spanish Sephardic, and more.

On Sunday, guest musicians from the region will join musicians from Corrales for presentations of jazz, folk, bluegrass and country. An “open jam” session will close the show.

The memory and contributions of past Corrales musicians will also be honored.

Let’s Dance! Saturday will be capped off with a dance beginning at 6 p.m. at the new San Ysidro Church Parish Hall, 5015 Corrales Road. A light meal will be offered, catered by Chef Jon Young.

This historical society’s production will be documented and recorded for future generations to appreciate the long historical tradition of music from the Village of Corrales. The two-day event is free, but donations are appreciated.
