According to a report by Payroll startup Deel, the median pay for men and women in India now stands at $18,000 and $13,000, respectively.

“India is one of the few countries where the gender pay gap has narrowed significantly,” said Mark Samlal, General Manager for APAC at Deel. “This progress signals a shift toward more transparent and data-driven pay practices.”
However, the report notes that India’s overall median compensation has dropped significantly. Engineering and data professionals saw their pay fall to $22,000 in 2025 from $36,000 in 2024, contrasting with salary growth in the US, where median compensation rose to $150,000 from $122,000 during the same period.
Globally, AI, cybersecurity and digital marketing jobs command a 20-25 per cent pay premium due to high demand and limited supply. The report also highlights a growing shift toward equity-based compensation, with emerging markets such as Brazil and India witnessing steady increases in equity grants as part of total pay packages.
The US, the UK, and Canada remain the highest-paying markets globally, with median compensation ranging between $73,000 and $150,000.
