Scary Movie 6 Will Reunite the Wayans Brothers After 18 Years
The Scary Movie franchise is set to deliver more spooks and laughs after a long hiatus. The Wayans Brothers are returning to the film series they created as a planned reboot of the slasher parody gets the green light.
According to Deadline, the Scary Movie remake, which was initially announced at CinemaCon in April, is ramping up its development with the confirmed return of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans to the creative team. The reboot, which is happening at Miramax and Paramount, will be the brothers’ first involvement with the franchise since 2001’s Scary Movie 2, working from an original screenplay for the upcoming project. Marlon confirmed the news on his Instagram page, saying he and his brothers are “looking forward to having fun on the big screen again” with the new film.

The Wayans Brothers expressed excitement about their Scary Movie comeback, saying, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

‘Who Wouldn’t Want to Do a Vampire Film?’: The Radleys Stars Mix Horror With Family Comedy
The Radleys actors Bo Bragason and Harry Baxendale tell CBR why they were excited about the vampire comedy – and why it’s actually more than that.
Scary Movie, which unleashed its uncompromising satire of several top horror franchises such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, launched in 2000, with the original becoming a box-office smash ($278 million against a $19 million budget) despite mixed critical reviews. Keenan directed the first two franchise films, while Marlon and Shawn co-wrote and starred in them alongside Regina Hall and Anna Faris. The Scary Movie series grossed $896 million worldwide over five movies.
The Wayans Brothers Are Finally Reuniting
The Wayans’ departure coincided with the steady decline in quality of the Scary Movie film series, despite its steady box-office performances and a star-studded haul that saw several names such as Kevin Hart, Anthony Anderson, Phil McGraw aka Dr. Phil, Shaquille O’Neal, Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan appear. The Wayans Brothers parted ways with the Scary Movie franchise after the first sequel due to financial disagreements. Last month, Marlon told Club Shay Shayhe felt the franchise’s producers were “terrible people,” alluding to the Weinstein Company’s takeover of the film series, led by disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. The Wayans long accused Weinstein of stealing their ideas to continue the franchise.
Faris, who last appeared in Scary Movie 4, said she’d be open to a return for the remake. Meanwhile, former Scream franchise star Melissa Barrera indicated her interest in appearing.
The Scary Movie reboot will begin production in 2025. No release date has been set.
