ETSU students craft one-of-a-kind guitars for musicians

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) students are taking their passion for music and woodworking to the next level, crafting unique and personalized guitars for musicians in the community. Through a collaborative project between the Department of Arts and Crafts and the Department of Music, students from both disciplines are working together to create custom instruments that are both beautiful and functional.

The initiative began with the goal of providing students with real-world experience in design, construction, and collaboration. Under the guidance of skilled instructors, students learn the intricate process of guitar building, from selecting the right wood to finishing the intricate details. The project also allows students to explore their creative side, designing unique features like custom inlays, intricate carvings, and personalized finishes.

The end result is a collection of one-of-a-kind guitars that are not only playable but also works of art. These instruments are then offered for sale to local musicians, giving them a chance to own a truly unique and handmade instrument.

The project has been a resounding success, benefiting both the students and the community. Students gain valuable skills and experience, while musicians receive custom-made instruments that reflect their individual style and taste. The initiative also highlights the collaborative nature of the arts and crafts at ETSU, showcasing the creative potential that blossoms when different disciplines come together.

This program at ETSU serves as a testament to the power of creativity and collaboration. It demonstrates that passion, skill, and dedication can lead to the creation of unique and valuable instruments, making music more accessible and enriching the lives of musicians and the community alike.
