Prabowo Plans Debt Relief for Farmers, Fishermen, and SMEs
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Maman Abdurrahman, confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto intends to provide debt relief for farmers, fishermen, and SMEs. This initiative aims to alleviate the financial burden on these groups, particularly those struggling with economic difficulties.
“Pak President’s directive is to lighten the burden on our fellow citizens who are burdened with debt,” Maman said on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
The Golkar Party politician revealed that Prabowo has instructed the quick implementation of the plan. Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas is currently working on the synchronization process and the legal framework along with several relevant ministers.
Regarding the exact amount of debt to be forgiven, Maman said the calculation is still ongoing. The data source related to the recipients of debt relief from SMEs is also being processed.
Previously, Prabowo’s younger brother Hashim Djojohadikusumo revealed the plan to issue a Presidential Regulation related to debt relief for farmers involving millions of people during the Kadin Economic Dialogue on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He said the Presidential Regulation is being drafted by Minister of Law, Supratman Andi Agtas.
He highlighted that millions of farmers and fishermen face longstanding debt burdens, particularly those affected by past economic crises. He also noted that many farmers and fishermen have difficulty accessing bank loans due to their credit history.
