One of Oklahoma’s most known live music venues and dance halls, JC Cowboys, has closed unexpectedly. Everyone’s wondering what happened and why. What could this mean for Oklahoma’s live music venues?
JC Cowboys Permanently Closed
The day before Halloween this year, JC Cowboys in Weatherford, Oklahoma closed its doors permanently. Now, when you search up their website, a unmistakable message on the home page reads “As of October 30, 2024, JC Cowboys is permanently closed.”

No official statement has been released by the venue. Since the change, we’ve reached out to JC’s for a comment, but have not since heard anything back as of November 1, 2024.
Folks that have heard the news are heart broken to lose another iconic venue in Oklahoma:
One of Oklahoma’s Most Known Live Music Venues
JC Cowboys started in 1982, bringing in musicians from nearly any and all types of genres. They were known for having a one-of-a-kind show with a gorgeous dancehall filled with dancers any time there was an act.
The venue had closed once before back in 2016 and sat vacant until a previous employee, Bo and his wife, Lisa Seibold, purchased the building in 2020. This venue meant a lot to the couple, as the front porch happened to be the same place that Bo proposed to his wife, according to her recount of their experience.
JC Cowboys had hosted acts like Charlie Robison and had just hosted Cody Canada two months ago in April 2024.
They had even started a new TikTok account to update with new events and shows just 4 days before the announcement. If they were still bringing in some high-class acts just months before the announcement, why did they suddenly shut their doors?

What Could This Closing Mean For Future Live Music Venues in Oklahoma?
Although there isn’t much publicly available to try to understand why the venue suddenly closed, we can’t help but wonder what this may mean for other live music venues in Oklahoma.
Live music venues rely on attendance. They need people in the seats, purchasing tickets, buying drinks, etc. And big name acts don’t come cheaply. So the next time you really want to show some appreciation for your favorite live music venue, you’ll go see a show and support Oklahoma by showing up and showing out.
