Hyundai Motor India takes on new CLO | Law.asia
Amitabh Lal Das
Hyundai Motor India has appointed Amitabh Lal Das as chief legal officer in a move the company is making to gear up for growth.
“The predominant reason prompting my move from Bajaj Auto to Hyundai has been the nature, size and timing of the Hyundai opportunity,” Das told Law.asia.
Das is a seasoned legal professional with almost three decades of experience in court practice as well as law firm roles. His previous positions include general counsel at Bajaj Auto and director and head – legal, compliance and regulatory at Max Life Insurance. In the Max Life role, he led strategic legal and compliance initiatives and collaborated closely with the board and regulators. Earlier in his career, he was director of legal at Sapient where he handled global contracts and regulatory compliance.
Hyundai’s recent historic IPO marks its first listing of a unit outside South Korea and is the largest in India to date. “Since the CLO role was created in advance of the IPO being mindful of the senior leadership requirement, it presented an opportunity to be at the right place at the right time: prior to India’s largest IPO [yet],” said Das.
