Conflict, Climate Crisis Pushing 22 Nations to Famine – UN

UN report warns that conflict, climate change, and economic stress are driving severe hunger and famine conditions in 22 countries and territories, with no likelihood of improvement in the coming months.

The situation is most severe in the Gaza Strip, Sudan, South Sudan, Haiti, and Mali, where millions of people are at the highest levels of food insecurity, meaning famine, risk of famine, or starvation is happening. As part of this year’s list of hunger hot spots, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia and Niger join Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Malawi, Somalia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, reports UN.

Climate change was a major factor in other regions, while economic inequality and high debt in many developing countries limit governments’ ability to react.
