Delegation of Kyrgyzstan attends Social Forum of UN Human Rights Council

AKIPRESS.COM – The delegation of Kyrgyzstan took part in the Social Forum of the UN Human Rights Council from October 31 to November 1.

The event was dedicated to the role of development financing in promoting human rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

During the panel discussion on international cooperation for development, Deputy Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhanybek Zhorobaev delivered a speech, drawing attention to the connecting role of national human rights institutions in maintaining an inclusive dialogue on acute social issues. He shared the experience of the Office of the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting effective international cooperation in protection and ensuring human rights and freedoms.

Zhorobaev noted that Kyrgyzstan has adopted the National Development Strategy until 2040, which correlates with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. As part of this strategy, the Ombudsman’s Office, along with state and law enforcement agencies, interacts with international partners and organizations, develops relevant recommendations and comments on draft laws submitted to the Parliament for consideration.

In the panel on external debt, Ambassador Omar Sultanov noted Kyrgyzstan’s fundamental support for the position of the UN Secretary General on the need to reform the international financial structures and reduce the debt burden for developing countries. He focused on the international efforts of Kyrgyzstan and, in particular, the initiative of President of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Japarov on the mechanism of exchanging debt for “green initiatives”.
