Fairmont soccer players honored by Big South Conference | News, Sports, Jobs
FAIRMONT – Now that the soccer season has come to a close, the Big South All-Conference soccer teams and Fairmont team awards have all been revealed.
The Fairmont girls went 6-0 in conference play in the Gold Division and secured the second place victory in the Big South Conference Championship. Making the cut for the All-Conference team on the girls squad was forward Kennedy Becker, Isabella Schroder and Amalia Leiding. With them was Abbie Simpson who received an honorable mention nod.
The Fairmont girls team awards went to Becker and the Golden Boot went to Amalia Leiding, while Isabella Schroder. Avery Chambers took the Rookie of the Year Award and Audrina Suckow secured the Most Improved Player award, while Nola Thedens took the Cardinal Spirit award and the Friend of Soccer award went to Amy Becker.
The Fairmont boys finished third in the Big South, Gold division with a record of 1-4-1 in conference play. Attacker Leonardo Fortin made the All-Conference squad, with Honorable Mention honors going to midfielder Angel Sanchez and defender Ethan Pockrus.
The Fairmont boys squad also released their season awards in addition to the All-Conference honors, with Leonardo Fortin securing the team’s MVP award. Most Improved Player went to Ricardo Antonio Morales Herrera, while Dani Castillo took the Rookie of the Year title. The Golden Boot went to Fortin and the Golden Ball went to Sanchez, while Pockrus secured the Golden Guard as well as the Cardinal Award. The Golden Glove went to goalkeeper Brody Deuel.
The Junior Varsity team awards started with Xavier Garcia, who secured the MVP and Golden Boot titles, while Victor Hernandez-Ponce took home the Most Improved Player award. The Rookie of the Year title went to Nathan Paris. The Golden Ball went to Hector Pablo Gomez and the Golden Guard went to Jackson Henning, while Hunter Olson secured the Golden Glove and Dammon Castillo took the Cardinal award for the season.
The C-squad also gave out a round of awards for the boys. Taking the MVP and Golden Glove title was Archer Pomerenke, while Jonah Wurster took home the Most Improved Player title and Luke Henry secured Rookie of the Year. Dawson O’Brien and Caden Deuel took home the Golden Ball, Hudson Clayton secured the Golden Guard and Carter Simmering took home the Cardinal Award.
