His Majesty to attend 79th UN General Assembly in New York

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will leave for New York City, the United States of America on 21st to 24th September 2024 to attend the Summit of the Future, and the General Debate of the 79th Session of the United Nations (U.N.) General Assembly.

With the theme “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow”, the Summit will bring together world leaders to enhance cooperation and address both current and emerging global challenges, as well as provide the opportunity to rebuild trust in the multilateral system towards shaping a better future for all peoples. It will also reaffirm existing commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Charter.

Whilst in New York City, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam will attend a Reception to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Brunei Darussalam’s membership to the U.N.

Brunei Darussalam joined the U.N. as its 159th member at the 39th Session of the U.N. General Assembly on 21st September 1984. Its membership in the U.N. has provided the opportunity for Brunei Darussalam as a small state to play a role in the international arena.

Through its active participation in U.N. meetings, mandatory and voluntary contributions, and the involvement of its Royal Brunei Armed Forces (R.B.A.F.) in U.N. peacekeeping operations, Brunei Darussalam also contributes to international peace and security, as well as to global prosperity and stability.
