ARTEX, a Chinese-made artificial intelligence (AI) penetration test tool known to have been used in indiscriminate hacking attacks on the Korean financial sector, will stop public development after controversy over abuse.According to foreign media such as AFP and Reuters on the 10th, Artex developer “Autumn-27” said in a post on developer platform GitHub on the 8th that Artex was abused, adding, “Considering the incorrect use of the tool, Artex will no longer be updated and will be converted to a private source.”
Artex is an autonomous penetration test program designed to connect large language models (LLMs) to allow AI agents to analyze attack targets, plan penetration paths, and execute security tools.
The Artex developer said it would stop updating the tool and not release additional versions, citing its exploitation in cyberattacks. It is reported that related pages have also disappeared from developer platform GitHub.
However, since programs that have already been distributed cannot be recovered, it will be difficult to block cyberattacks using Artex only by halting development. “Additional versions will not be released to the public, nor will maintenance support be provided,” he explained. Artex said the use of the tool for cyberattacks is contrary to the developer’s intentions, but did not directly mention the hacking incident in Korea. Experts diagnosed that Artex’s transition to a private source could make it more difficult for new users to create code.
