IPL 2025 mega auction: Axar Patel surprises Delhi Capitals fan contest winners

With less than two days to go before the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, JSW-GMR co-owned Delhi Capitals made it a memorable experience for some of the winners of the ‘Roar Macha in Jeddah’ contest, as star all-rounder Axar Patel made a surprise appearance for the fans during a virtual interaction.

The contest winners, selected from thousands of video submissions showcasing their love and support for the Delhi Capitals, will travel to Jeddah to witness the auction LIVE. During the virtual meet, Axar expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support, not just for the Delhi Capitals but also for Indian cricket.

“You fans are our real backbone. Everywhere we go, it feels like we are in India. Thank you so much for supporting us. Congratulations to all the contest winners. Keep supporting us because ‘Roar Tabhi Toh Machega’,” Axar said while interacting with the fans.

IPL goes for auctions

With 46 players retained by the 10 franchises before the October 31 deadline, franchises are now gearing up for the auctions as they try to build their squad for IPL 2025. During the retention window, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, SunRisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants retained five players while Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals used all six retention cards. Punjab Kings retained the least number of players with two and have a purse of more than ₹1 billion ($10 million) to spend in the auctions.

When are the IPL Mega Auction?

As announced on Tuesday (Nov 5), the IPL 2025 auctions will be one of a kind and will be held in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Last year, the auctions were held in Dubai, where Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were top players to pull off big deals.
