AI-generated imageWith a large number of films made on Dolby Atmos, India is one of the core and important markets globally for Dolby Laboratories, Javier Foncillas, global vice president of commercial partnerships at the company said. Speaking to TOI, he said, “More than 1,600 films were made in Dolby Atmos in the last 12 years and nearly 950 cinema screens have the audio system.”

The company has entered into a partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra to bring Dolby Atmos to their electric SUVs. This is the first automaker in the country to partner with Dolby for in-car entertainment and they are working with other Indian car brands to extend the partnership. “Worldwide we have collaborated with 16 automakers and this is a strategic push,” he said. Foncillas said Dolby domestic electronic hardware brands like Boult, Noise got into licensing deals last year.

He said, while Dolby Atmos is presently adopted in premium cars, they hope to tap the mainstream, affordable segment similar to what it achieved in China. “Our team is talking to all auto brands because our ambition is to make this mainstream ,” he said, adding that Dolby audio and Vision systems are adopted by more video streaming players in India.
