The Final ‘Downton Abbey’ Film Sets a Streaming Release Date

2 min

After a healthy theatrical run, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale has set a streaming premiere date. Released in theaters on September 12, 2025, The Grand Finale is the final entry in the Downton Abbey film trilogy, which began in 2019 with Downton Abbey and continued in 2022 with A New Era. The trilogy follows up the popular series of the same name, which aired from 2010 to 2015, following the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in the post-Edwardian era.

Peacock has announced that Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale will begin streaming on Peacock starting November 7, 2025. That marks a 56-day theatrical window for the acclaimed final chapter, which has a Certified Fresh 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently, all six seasons of Downton Abbey and the two previous films are streaming on Peacock, making it the number one destination to binge the franchise this holiday season. Read the official synopsis for The Grand Finale:

The cinematic return of the global phenomenon follows the Crawley family and their staff as they enter the 1930s. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.

How Did ‘Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale’ Compare to Previous Films?

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale grossed $18.1 million in its opening weekend, coming in third place behind the record-breaking Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie – Infinity Castle. In total, the period drama grossed $44 million domestically and $100 million worldwide against a budget of $50 million. Fittingly, The Grand Finale was released ten years after the original Downton Abbey series finale, allowing another chance to say goodbye.

The first Downton Abbey, riding a wave of acclaim from the series conclusion, grossed $96 million domestically and $194 million worldwide in 2019. The sequel, Downton Abbey: A New Era, grossed $44 million domestically and $92 million worldwide in the spring of 2022. Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale matched A New Era domestically and outgrossed it worldwide, but neither film could match the heights of the first. The original Downton Abbey also benefited from opening in 2019, one year before the COVID-19 pandemic, and during the second-highest-earning year in box-office history.

Peacock is getting some big titles just in time for the holidays. How to Train Your Dragon already debuted on the service on October 10, 2025, while Jurassic World: Rebirth will become available on October 30. Those might be drastically different films than Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, but they all serve to prop up Peacock as a must-have streaming service during the holiday season. With Downton Abbey being a popular series, it is likely The Grand Finale will be a hit on streaming and might see a spike in viewership for the original series and feature films.
