The Royal Thai Embassy e-Visa System
The Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi has officially announced the introduction of Thailand’s Electronic Visa (e-Visa) system for Indian applicants, set to commence on January 1, 2025. This new system is designed to simplify the visa application process and includes an offline payment option for added convenience.
The e-Visa platform will cater to non-Thai nationals applying for all visa categories. Applicants are required to submit their visa applications exclusively through the official website, thaievisa.go.th.
According to the Embassy, applications can be completed either by the applicants themselves or by authorized representatives. However, the Embassy clarified that it would not be responsible for incomplete applications submitted by representatives. A comprehensive guide to the application process is also available on the website.
To finalize their applications, visa-seekers must pay the applicable visa fees, details of which will be provided by the Embassy and respective Consulate-Generals. It was emphasized that visa fees are non-refundable under any circumstances. Once the application is submitted, the processing time for e-Visas is estimated to be approximately 14 working days from the issuance of the visa receipt.
The Embassy outlined the transition timeline for the shift to the e-Visa system. For ordinary passport holders, visa applications through designated visa processing companies will be accepted until December 16, 2024. For diplomatic and official passport holders, submissions will be accepted directly at the Embassy or Consulate-Generals until December 24, 2024.
Indian travellers holding ordinary passports will continue to benefit from the existing 60-day visa exemption for tourism and short business trips, which remains effective until further notice. Additional details about the e-Visa system’s operations across the Embassy and Consulate-Generals are expected to be announced in the coming months.
India and Thailand share a rich history of close ties, strengthened by centuries of cultural and social exchanges. As maritime neighbours in the Andaman Sea, the two nations enjoy deep people-to-people connections that continue to enhance their bilateral relationship. The rollout of the e-Visa system marks a significant step forward in fostering seamless travel between the two countries.
