‘Andor’s Budget is Higher Than ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and Other ‘Star Wars’ Movies
The Star Wars franchise has never held back when it comes to splashing cash to make sure their movies and TV shows look spectacular. That has been proven by the recent revelation that Andor
is now one of the most expensive projects ever for the space opera franchise. Across its two series, the show has a budget of $645 million, with $290.9 million coming from the upcoming Season 2.
This gives the new season a similar per-episode budget to Netflix’s Stranger Things and Wednesday, but moreover, it means that Andor’s return costs more than the $275 million budget of The Rise of Skywalker. While Andor is one of the franchise’s most impressive projects, and delivered a near-perfect story in Season 1, whether it is quite worth the price for Disney and Lucasfilm is questionable.
Naturally, this budget was not entirely planned. Production on Season 2 began in 2022, but thanks to the SAG_AFTRA strike, the whole thing ground to a halt in mid-2023. Filming commenced again in January 2024, and finally wrapped in February. While this would have pushed up the cost significantly, the total reported cost will likely be even higher when all is said and done as the figures reportedly do not include anything beyond the end of 2023.
However, thanks to filming in the U.K., the production has reportedly received a tax rebate of $129 million, which will have pulled down the final cost for Disney in actual money terms.
‘Andor’ Season 2 Has a Tough Legacy to Maintain
Andor was always planned as a two-season arc, with creator Tony Gilroy being well aware of his endgame thanks to Rogue One. The show is unable to outstay its welcome thanks to having only a limited story to tell, and that is something that helped keep the show tight and focused.
Rogue One is one of the best Star Wars movies, even equaling some of the original trilogy. Andor expanded on this to deliver one of the highest-rated Star Wars shows on Disney+. However, that brings with it a lot of pressure to continue and conclude the series with a worthy finale.

‘Andor’ Season 2 Will Be Visting this Major Location Tied to the Original Trilogy
‘Andor’ showrunner teased a significant location from the Star Wars canon for Season 2.
Previously, The Mandalorian began as a perfect show on Disney+, with high praise coming from both critics and audiences. However, by Season 3, the gleam of the shiny, new and exciting series that brought us Grogu, a de-aged Mark Hamill in the role of Luke Skywalker, and brought about the return of fan-favorite Boba Fett – for a less than impressive spinoff series – was dulling.
Andor is a different beast entirely, and Gilroy seems to have had the series planned out from the start. He has also had plenty of time to perfect the story, dialogue, and iron out all those little niggles that tend to have fans rolling their eyes and deducting stars from their reviews. With the debut of Season 2 now set for release in April 2025, fans do not have long to wait for the saga of Andor and Rogue One to put its final pieces in place and complete the story.
