BYD Denza N9 electric SUV patent filed in India – Car News

BYD currently retails three fully-electric cars in India including Atto 3, eMax 7, and Seal.

BYD is a very well known electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer globally even though in India its presence has been limited to the commercial vehicle segment until a couple of years ago when the Chinese brand ventures into the passenger vehicle space. With its strong in-house developed battery technology, BYD has elaborate expansion plans for the Indian market.

The Chinese automaker has filed patents for another EV in India, this time for its luxury brand Denza. Called the Denza N9, this flagship electric SUV recently made its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November this year. Besides its all-electric form, the N9 is also available with a plug-in hybrid format.

Although filing a patent application doesn’t guarantee a market launch, it shows BYD is at least considering it for the Indian market in the future. And given BYD’s focus on EVs in India, if it’s launched here, it will most likely come in a fully-electric avatar as a fully-imported CBU. On the first glance, the Denza N9 reminds us of the Land Rover Discovery even though the front face of the N9 is very distinct.

BYD Denza N9: Exterior & Interior highlights

The front fascia gets a sealed-off nose flanked by sleek triple LED projector headlamps, and chunky bumper with black inserts on each side. The side profile is understated with flared wheel arches filled up by either 21-inch or 22-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The rear end looks very contemporary featuring a connected LED light strip running across the width of the tailgate.

Inside, the layout of the cabin has been kept minimalistic with predominantly light-coloured interiors for the China-spec model. The SUV will be available in a 2+2+2 seating layout. In terms of features, it will pack all bells and whistles such as a 50-inch HUD, a 17.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment display, a 13.2-inch driver instrument panel, and a 13.2-inch touch screen for front passengers. However, the biggest highlight is a 17.1-inch ceiling-mounted screen as part of the rear-seat entertainment package.

BYD Denza N9: Powertrain

Powered by a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 205 PS, the PHEV variant charges a 47 kWh battery, enabling an electric-only range of up to 165 km. This setup, combined with two electric motors, delivers a combined system output of 911 bhp, propelling the N9 to a top speed of 230 kmph.

The all-electric N9, on the other hand, boasts a larger battery pack and a more potent triple-motor setup, generating an impressive 952 bhp. The Denza N9 is expected to make its debut in China in 2025, with an estimated starting price of CNY 0.5 Million (approximately Rs. 59 lakh).
