Filming ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’ Was Frustrating for Voldemort Actor
Being part of a long-running film franchise can become tiring for any actor, and for Harry Potter
’s Ralph Fiennes
his final outing as Lord Voldemort was a “pain in the ass” for one particular reason. The Thespian played the evil villain in five Harry Potter movies, making his first full appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005, but one thing about his final movie six years later became incredibly frustrating.
Speaking to PEOPLE in a new interview, Fiennes recalled some of his most famous roles, and while revisiting the finale of the Harry Potter saga, he explained how the whole scene was almost undone by a wayward robe. He said:
“I’m wearing these long silky robes. I had to wear tights under the robes. The tights would work their way down, so the gusset of the tights would be around by my knees, and to get under the robes to hoist the tights up was a big thing, and it could be a bit of a pain in the ass. I said, ‘Why don’t we cut them?’ And I put a garter belt on. And so, I do sometimes remember teasing the crew or the stunt team by provocatively lifting my skirts to show them my wonderful legs with the garter belt on.”
Voldemort Will Get a New Face in the ‘Harry Potter’ TV Show
Like many of the characters brought to life in the Harry Potter movies, the upcoming TV series has a tricky task of finding someone new to take on the role of He Who Shall Not Be Named. Depending on how the character is played, that casting may still be a few years off, as he doesn’t technically make his first full appearance in the first 3 books.
In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the character is revealed – sort of – to be present on the back of the head of Hogwarts teacher Quirinus Quirrell, and he also appears in flashback moments throughout the first three books. However, none of these appearances were played by Fiennes on screen. Whether the series will bring in its new Voldemort from the start, or save that until the Dark Lord’s triumphant full return, we can only wait and see.

Harry Potter: Ralph Fiennes’ Best Moments as Voldemort, Ranked
Ralph Fiennes as Lord Voldemort has become one of the most iconic movie roles of any franchise. These were his best moments as the character.
Whoever takes on the challenge of following Fiennes, will have some quite big boots to fill. In the same interview, Fiennes recalled how much of Voldemort’s character was in his voice, and how it had some peculiar qualities that may be carried over to the new version.
“I think when I’m playing Voldemort, I’m trying to access something without empathy. It’s about power and control, and manipulating of people for power. There’s a real, almost erotic pleasure in how I can control you. I know I have the power to do it, you have no chance.”
Fans have speculated about who could pull off the role with the same gravitas of Fiennes, with Cillian Murphy’s name coming up in numerous posts on social media. While Fiennes has said that he would be willing to return to the role of Voldemort if asked, it seems likely that, with a decade-long plan in place, the series will be looking for someone a little younger to take on the role this time around.
