National Youth Music Theatre to hold auditions in Glasgow

The National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) will hold the auditions in the city on Sunday, January 26 for its 2025 programme.

Open to young people aged 10 to 23, the auditions provide an opportunity for participants to demonstrate their skills in acting, singing, and dancing.

The workshops are designed to cater to both experienced performers and newcomers to musical theatre.

Audition workshops will also be conducted in several other UK and Irish cities, including Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Cork, Ipswich, Leeds, Newcastle upon Tyne, Manchester, and London.

In addition to the performance workshops, the NYMT will offer Musician Audition Workshops in person.

These sessions, costing £25, allow participants to play two pieces on their chosen instrument and engage in a group question and answer session with the musical director.

The half-day workshop offers insights and experience working with industry professionals.

Following the auditions, every young participant will receive a personalised recommendation from the NYMT.

This could involve joining a course to improve their skills or attending a casting session.

The NYMT aims to ensure each participant has a positive and impactful experience, becoming a part of the NYMT community.

The 2025 programme promises a mix of well-known musicals and innovative new works.

In addition to the launch of the 2025 programme, the NYMT has announced West End star Kerry Ellis as its newest patron.

The actress, known for her roles in Wicked, Les Misérables, and We Will Rock You, is an alumna of the NYMT.

Ms Ellis expressed her pride and honour at being appointed a patron of the NYMT.

Reflecting on her own experiences, she said: “I had such an amazing time when I was younger, and it really made a difference to my future.

“I’m proud to have been part of one of their shows and hope lots of other young people have the opportunity to experience what I did.”

Chris Cuming, artistic director of NYMT, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Kerry Ellis as our new patron.

“Her passion for musical theatre and her commitment to mentoring young performers makes her the perfect fit for NYMT.”
