Accounting software firm My Digital appoints new CEO & chair

FinTechAppointments

My Digital, a leading provider of cloud-based payroll and accounting software, has announced a new CEO and chairman.

Dan Moss succeeds founder John Whelan as CEO of the Stockport-headquartered business while private equity veteran Ged Gould has been named as the new chair.

These leadership changes come on the back of a successful management buyout in May 2024, which saw Maven Capital exit the company after investing £1.2m in 2019 to fund growth.

Founded in 2015, My Digital employs 62 staff, which includes 42 in its wholly-owned subsidiary in India. In its last set of accounts it reported a turnover of £2.8m for the 12 months to March 31st, 2024.

The announcement sees Whelan step down from his operational role to pursue other interests although he’ll remain on the board.

Moss has worked at My Digital since 2016, most recently as chief operating officer, and said the software firm was perfectly placed for growth.

He said: “I’m delighted that the management team will be able to take the company forward through its scale-up phase and execute its ambitious vision.

“The team we’ve built is brimming with talent and enthusiasm, especially following the MBO earlier this year.

“As we move forward, we will continue to revolutionise payroll by leveraging the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence.

“With automated payroll processes offering benefits beyond the temporary labour market, we plan to expand our award-winning software to a broader audience.

“Our values are deeply rooted in providing exceptional customer service and driving ambitious innovation. As we continue to invest in these areas, I am confident that there are no limits to what we can achieve together—for our customers, our shareholders, and our team.”

Moss paid tribute to the role of outgoing CEO Whelan.

“John has a reputation for developing his teams and stepping aside once the mentoring and development process has completed,” he said.

“He’s been a big support for me during my eight years at My Digital, which saw me start by designing and managing the development of the software to becoming the COO.”

New chair Ged Gould is the co-founder of investment advisory firm Dealspan and a former director of private equity specialist LDC.
