In this article, we will tell you about a train, popularly known as a “poor man’s Rajdhani Express”.

The Indian Railways have offered us some renowned trains like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, Rajdhani Express, Mahabodhi Express, Purushottam Express, etc, known for their high-class service as well as state-of-the-art facilities.

However, the train which we are referring to is ‘Garib Rath’, known as the “cheapest train” in the country. Despite having AC coaches, its fares are the lowest. Speaking about speed, this train can compete with Vande Bharat as well as Rajdhani Express.

Features of Garib Rath

Garib Rath is fully air-conditioned like other high-class trains. Recognised the most affordable train in the country, the fare for this fully AC-coach train is just 68 paise per kilometer, allowing passengers to travel long distances at incredibly low prices.

This train was launched in 2006 by the then-Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav- aiming to provide high-class services to people at low prices.

Today, Garib Rath operates on 26 different routes across the country. Some of the notable routes include- Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Chennai, and Patna-Kolkata.
