No. 4 UMD women’s hockey shuts out No. 10 St. Cloud State

On Friday, fourth ranked UMD women’s hockey shut out 10th ranked St. Cloud State on home ice, 3-0 after an eventful third period.

Neither team would budge until the late stages of the second period, when Olivia Mobley found the back of the net. Just four minutes later and with one minute to go until the second intermission, Ida Karlsson added onto the lead.

The Bulldogs protected their lead deep into the third period, and added an insurance empty net goal by Olivia Wallin with two minutes to go. The goal marked Wallin’s 53rd goal of her career.

In the final 70 seconds of the game, the Huskies scored two goals, but both were separately waived off due to challenges by UMD. The first goal was called off for batting the puck into the net, and the second was waived off for goalie interference.

Ève Gascon earns the shutout with 24 saves. UMD (14-5-2) improves their unbeaten streak to nine, and will look to make it 10 in their series finale against St. Cloud State Saturday. Puck drop is 2:01 p.m. at AMSOIL Arena.
