South Indian cinema has gained significant acclaim for its suspense thriller films. The films often delve into complex theme, captivating audience with its intriguing plots and compelling narratives. Here’s one such film that explores themes of guilt, revenge and the devasting impact of privacy violations. We are talking about 2017-released Puriyatha Puthir, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathrie in lead roles.

Helmed by Ranjit Jeyakodi, the Tamil psychological thriller delves into the repercussions of cybercrime and the invasion of privacy. The narrative follows Kathir, an aspiring music director, who fell in love with Meera, a music teacher. Their relationship takes a dark turn when Kathir receives explicit videos of Meera, leading to a series of events that uncover hidden truths and past traumas.

This was the second time Vijay Sethupathi and S Gayathrie paired up, after the success of Naduvula Konjam Pakatha Kanom. Their chemistry was outstanding and was well-received by the audience. Moreover, Sam CS, music director of Vikram Vedha scored the music for the film. The songs effectively conveyed the character’s emotions and enhanced the film’s overall impact.

Moreover, director Ranjit Jeyakodi’s direction has been noted for its attempt to convey a strong message. Vijay Sethupathi’s portrayal of Kathir, a music director entangled in a complex relationship, has been particularly praised. The suspenseful plot keeps viewers engaged, offering a fresh perspective on the thriller cinema.

The film was initially titled ‘Mellisai’ but was renamed Puriyatha Puthir in October 2016 to better reflect its mystery thriller genre.
