Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday afternoon for the City of Medicine Hat that heavy snowfall from 25-50 cm is expected throughout the weekend.
Highway conditions, especially Highway 41, are expected to be poor for travel as county and provincial plowing crews will be out in force to deal with the snowfall.
Cypress County Fire Services is reminding motorists who have to travel to check 511.alberta.ca for current road conditions and stay tuned to weather.gc.ca for new alerts and current forecasts.
Firefighters also recommend anyone travelling this weekend to prepare a winter driving kit that includes food, water, blankets, first aid and a shovel in case of an unexpected delay.
At the time of publication Environment Canada is forecasting the snowfall will taper off Sunday evening.
