DPM lauds AIM for helping women break poverty cycle
KUCHING (Jan 12): Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) has continued to prove its effectiveness in helping women, especially housewives, escape the cycle of poverty through its micro loan programmes and entrepreneurship training, said Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.
The Deputy Prime Minister said AIM’s support not only provides recipients with opportunities to generate an income but also builds their confidence in managing small-scale businesses effectively.
“What is most important is that AIM provides continuous training and support until the recipients, or ‘Sahabat AIM’, are fully capable of managing their businesses successfully,” he told reporters.
He was met after closing the ‘Singgah Lok Karnival Sahabat Usahawan Amanah Ikthtiar Malaysia’ at Eco Mall Samariang in Petra Jaya here today.
Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, praised ‘Sahabat AIM’ members for repaying their loans on time.
This, he said, clearly reflects their ability to effectively utilise the assistance and training they have received.
“If they were not successful, they would not have been able to repay their loans. That is why the rate of those who did not repay the loans is very low, at just 0.02 percent.
“This proves their efforts have successfully improved their living standards, and I hope for AIM and Sahabat AIM to continue achieving success,” he said.
Meanwhile, AIM Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Seri Dr Syed Hussian Syed Junid said entrepreneurship is not merely a profession.
“It is a platform for building a better life, contributing to national development, and fostering a stronger community network.”
He said to date, AIM has 117 branches, and over 2,200 staff.
As of September 2024, AIM has recorded nearly 313,000 entrepreneur members nationwide, with 42,184 active members in Sarawak.
Syed Hussian also said that the total loans disbursed to AIM entrepreneurs in 2024 reached RM262 million, with Sarawak recording an excellent repayment rate.
