USAID PROVIDES CRITICAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO PMGH : PNG Haus Bung

On Wednesday morning, the U.S. government, via the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), delivered essential oxygen supply items and medical equipment to Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) during a ceremony.

They delivered equipment included laryngoscopes, thermal imaging cameras, pulse oximeters, oxygen concentrators, and various other supplies.

These items will facilitate the management and treatment of medical conditions that necessitate oxygen therapy, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Nino Nadiradze, the USAID Country Representative, highlighted that the recent donation underscores the United States’ enduring commitment to bolstering health systems, improving healthcare outcomes, and increasing access to quality medical services in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

“USAID’s investment in health systems has been a cornerstone of the United States’ fifty-year partnership with Papua New Guinea.”

“We take pride in providing PNG’s healthcare professionals with the essential tools, supplies, and knowledge needed to save lives and ensure the highest standard of care.”

Dr. Henao Asa, Acting Director of Medical Services at PMGH, emphasized the importance of this support.

“USAID’s assistance will significantly enhance our capacity to deliver critical care to patients in need.”

“This is a crucial step toward improving healthcare outcomes, not only in Port Moresby, but throughout all of PNG.”

The equipment and supplies were provided through USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project, which is managed by FHI 360.

This initiative stems from USAID’s dedication to improving health supply chains at both global and national levels.

By streamlining the logistics involved in procuring and distributing oxygen supplies, the project seeks to improve access to essential healthcare resources in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Dr. Poruan Temu, FHI 360 PNG Country Representative, stated that FHI 360 was delighted to contribute to the betterment of healthcare delivery in PNG.

“FHI 360 is honored to play a role in enhancing healthcare delivery within the country.”

“By overseeing the logistics and distribution of these crucial oxygen supplies, we are ensuring that lifesaving resources reach the facilities and patients who need them the most.”
