Two Premier League clubs are interested in signing FC Barcelona star Ansu Fati during the current transfer window according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.
The Lamine Yamal of his era who shattered a number of youngest goalscorer and appearance maker records at the turn of the decade, and was compared to fellow La Masia graduate Lionel Messi to the extent of inheriting his number 10 shirt in 2021, Fati is currently frozen out in Montjuic.
Returning from a loan spell at Brighton last season, the 22-year-old initially impressed Flick in preseason training but then fell to a foot injury that once more blighted his progress.
Either side of that knock and a muscle niggle in December, Fati has been unable to convince Flick of his worth as the German revealed in a prematch press conference to preview Wednesday’s 5-1 Copa del Rey last 16 win over Real Betis.
“He was injured, but after the injury he didn’t show us his one hundred percent. And it’s a shame for him and for us, he did not give it his all. He has to work like everyone else and give his best, that’s what we want,” Flick explained.
The manager also sent a message to Fati by leaving him out of the squad for said cup clash, which led to SPORT reporting that he has a “foot-and-a-half” out of the club.
And on Thursday morning in Catalonia, the same newspaper explains that two Premier League clubs are interested in Fati despite him struggling to impress at Brighton last term.
They are mainly London giants West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur, with the former lacking strikers considering setbacks that have sidelined Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio.
As for Spurs, it is reeling from losing the north London derby to bitter rival Arsenal, and could do with making a statement signing to appease fans and show that something is being done about poor results as of late.
With Fati a high earner at Barca on a long-term contract until 2027, his most likely way of leaving the club is as part of a loan deal until the end of 2024/2025.
