PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba recently held a courtesy meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, during which he emphasised the need for international financial reforms that would benefit developing countries.

During their discussion, they highlighted Namibia’s pivotal role as a bridge-builder and peacemaker within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Guterres also thanked President Mbumba for his efforts in uniting the global community for the upcoming Summit of the Future, which Namibia is co-hosting with Germany.

President Mbumba expressed pride in Namibia’s co-chair position, acknowledging it as an honour and a reflection of the country’s alignment with the goals of the Global South.

The Summit of the Future, themed “Summit of the Future: Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” is taking place from Friday, 20 September, to Monday, 23 September, in New York, United States of America (USA). According to the Namibian Presidency, the summit will see the adoption of the Pact for the Future, a process over which President Mbumba will preside.

“President Mbumba will preside over the adoption of the Pact for the Future, a document that will bind the commitment of world leaders to address global challenges facing humanity, including climate change, financing development, rising inequality, conflict, and food security,” the Namibian Presidency explained.
