Cabinet Chairman meets with UN Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan
AKIPRESS.COM – Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev and United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan Antje Grawe held a meeting.
The parties discussed the results of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN in 2024 and outlined prospects for future, the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers expressed gratitude to Antje Grawe and the heads of the UN missions in Kyrgyzstan for supporting reforms and programs for the country’s socio-economic development, in particular, the participation of President Sadyr Japarov in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the visit of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to Kyrgyzstan were noted.
“The visit of the UN Secretary General to Kyrgyzstan gave a new impetus to bilateral cooperation, including on regional security, climate change, sustainable mountain development and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. In recognition of the UN’s role in Kyrgyzstan’s development, the Secretary-General was presented with a certificate naming a mountain peak in Issyk-Kul region “UN Peak,” the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said.
The adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic to declare October 23 “International Snow Leopard Day” was also noted.
The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said that Kyrgyzstan prioritizes achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), integrating them into the national development program.
“Kyrgyzstan entered the top 50 countries in terms of SDG implementation efficiency, ranking in the 45th place. By 2030, Kyrgyzstan has set an ambitious goal of becoming one of the top 30 UN countries in terms of SDG implementation,” he added.
Kasymaliev noted that the Kyrgyz Republic will continue to advance the mining agenda, and spoke about the country’s strategic projects for the construction of the Kambar-Ata HPP-1 and the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
Antje Grawe confirmed her readiness to support the country’s initiatives and facilitate their implementation in the international arena.
