Music in the Mountains holds open auditions for chorus Jan. 27 | News
Music in the Mountains encourages all interested singers to take advantage of this open audition and to schedule an appointment for Monday, January 27. Whether a person is an experienced singer, or someone looking to make their debut, MIM welcomes everyone to share their passion for music.
“Nevada County is lucky to have so many opportunities to make and share music in our community,” exclaims Amy Clark, Section Leader for the MIM Chorus and lead singer of the locally-based Amy Clark Band. “I joined the Music in the Mountains chorus in 2022 and have loved singing with MIM.” She adds, “It’s going to be an exciting semester with so many concerts coming up–especially with the opportunity to perform at the Mondavi Center in May with the Auburn Symphony and other regional choirs.”
Prospective chorus members will be asked to sing scales for tone and range and may be asked to sing a prepared piece and/or sight read music. The MIM Chorus will have the opportunity to rehearse with Chorus Director Ariel May and to perform with Conductor and Artistic Director, Ryan Murray and other professional musicians.
Chorus Conductor Ariel May is a dynamic conductor, singer, and educator whose passion shines through her work. A California native, she earned a B.M. in Music Education from the Hall-Musco Conservatory at Chapman University and M.A. in Teaching Music from UC Irvine. Ariel taught classical voice and choral music at Fullerton College, voice and piano at the Young Americans College of Performing Arts, and was the Director of Vocal Music at Canyon High School. Under her baton, choirs have received unanimous superior ratings at festivals nationwide and performed in NYC’s Carnegie Hall.
“Music in the Mountains is thrilled to offer our community the high level of expertise from our artistic staff. And we are deeply appreciative of the support and enthusiasm from the community,” notes MIM Staff Member, Kevin Ross. “We look forward to the wonderful programming MIM is offering this year and to showcasing the incredible talents that our auditions have revealed.”
Rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings in Grass Valley. Scheduled choral productions include multiple performances scheduled for Spring 2025 with a choral concert on April 26 and a collaboration with the Auburn Symphony at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis in May. Additionally, Music in the Mountains’ 2025 SummerFest will include several choral pieces that will captivate and enchant audiences. Chorus members are invited to continue into the fall semester for the magic of the Music in the Mountains Holiday Concerts scheduled for December 13 and 14 at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley.
Chorus auditions will take place at Peace Lutheran Church on West Main Street in Grass Valley on Monday, January 27 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. To secure an audition slot, interested individuals should email Music in the Mountains at info@musicinthemountains.org or call the MIM Office at (530) 265-6173.
