BCCI to not print ‘Pakistan’ on India jersey in Champions Trophy: Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to not print the name ‘Pakistan’ in the Indian team jerseys for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, according to media reports from India and Pakistan.

BCCI earlier had refused to send its team to Pakistan for the tournament and after a lengthy discussion between all the stakeholders, it was decided that all of India’s matches will take place in the UAE instead.

According to reports, BCCI has also decided to not sent India captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the opening ceremony and now the Indian board is reportedly about to go against the practice of printing the logo of the tournament and the name of the hosts in the jersey for ICC events.

“BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game,” Indian news agency IANS quoted an official from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who sought anonymity.

“They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don’t want to send their captain [to Pakistan] for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they don’t want the host nation’s name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body will not let this happen and support Pakistan,” the PCB official added.

Meanwhile, Pakistani media The Express Tribune reached out to an ICC official, who denied the reports and said, “It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule.”

The Pakistan team had travelled to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup and had the name ‘India’ printed in their jerseys.

The Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19.
