Guy Ritchie Recruits Shogun Star for Next Feature Film

Shogun star Cosmo Jarvis has joined the ensemble cast of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming movie Wife & Dog. Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike, and Anthony Hopkins are also set to star in the film that begins production in the UK this February.

Per Variety, Jarvis boards Wife & Dog, a movie the publication describes as a “return to the colourful, back-stabbing world of the British aristocracy Richie explored in The Gentlemen film and TV series.” Ritchie wrote the screenplay for Wife & Dog and will produce alongside longtime producing partner Ivan Atkinson and Black Bear’s John Friedberg. Wife & Dog marks the third collaboration between Black Bear and Ritchie after The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024) and the upcoming In the Grey, which also stars Pike.

Jarvis has risen to prominence playing the role of shipwrecked English sailor John Blackthorne in FX’s hit series Shogun, which received a record 18 Emmy Awards and four Golden Globes. Before Shogun, he featured alongside Florence Pugh and Naomi Ackie in 2016’s indie movie Lady Macbeth. The actor earned acclaim as a criminal enforcer in the Irish gangster thriller Calm With Horses, before starring opposite Dakota Johnson in Netflix’s Persuasion. In addition to Wife & Dog, Jarvis will appear in The Alto Knights led by Robert De Niro, A24’s Warfare, and the Australian prison drama Inside.

Another Upcoming Movie From Guy Ritchie

One of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers, Ritchie has other projects in the pipeline. One of those films is the upcoming action-adventure movie The Fountain of Youth, which will debut this year. The acclaimed director will again collaborate with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare female lead Eiza Gonzalez on the Apple TV+ film that will have Jack Ryan‘s John Krasinski as the first name on the call sheet. Thor‘s Natalie Portman will co-star in The Fountain of Youth, which tells the story of two estranged siblings, who reunite in search of the mythical spring.

Ritchie describes The Fountain of Youth as being “in the vein of Indiana Jones but contemporary.” The director discussed wanting to do something a bit different for the film. “I found myself feeling like if I wasn’t too careful, I was ending up in a comedy-action-gangster genre, of which, of course, I’m comfortable and enjoy, but at some point, I thought, you have to spread your wings as a writer-director,” he said.

Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog, starring Shogun‘s Cosmo Jarvis is yet to schedule a release date.
