Money for votes: What’s happening in Delhi?

Imagine this: political parties in Delhi are competing to hand out cash and freebies to win votes. This is what’s happening in the Delhi elections, and it’s getting a little out of control.

Here’s what some of the big parties are promising:

  • BJP: ₹15,000 for students preparing for government exams, paying for their travel and fees. They also promise ₹21,000 for pregnant women and ₹2,500-₹3,000 every month for senior citizens.
  • AAP: Free tuition for kids of auto drivers, ₹1 lakh for a daughter’s wedding, and monthly money for women (₹2,100), priests (₹18,000), and others.
  • Congress: ₹8,500 monthly for unemployed youth, apprenticeships, and ₹2,500 monthly for women.

Sounds generous, right? But here’s the problem.

Why This Is a Big Deal

  1. Promises vs. Reality: Many of these cash promises depend on strict rules and conditions. After elections, people might find out they don’t qualify.
  2. Money Problems: Where does all this money come from? It’s usually taken from the government’s budget. This means less money for things like schools, hospitals, and wages for important workers, like anganwadi workers who are paid shockingly low amounts.
  3. What About the Future?: Instead of improving public services or creating long-term jobs, parties are focused on handing out cash just to win votes. This short-term thinking can harm the country’s economy.

Why Should You Care?

When political parties act like this, it’s like they’re treating elections as a game where votes are bought with money instead of working to make real changes that help everyone. If this continues, it might set a bad example for future elections in other states, like Bihar, where similar promises could create even more problems.

Bottom Line: Freebies might sound great, but they could hurt the country in the long run. Instead of quick cash, we need leaders who focus on solving real issues and making everyone’s lives better for the future.
