10 Recent Movies NOBODY Watched

Modern moviegoers have quite the enviable problem – there are more great films being released every month, perhaps every week, than anyone with a full-time job and other hobbies can possibly keep up with.

Even with many decrying the lack of originality in modern cinema, it’s still an embarrassment of riches out there, especially if you’re prepared to look below the surface and seek out the diamonds in the rough.

Yet sometimes films of all quality levels simply end up being ignored by audiences en masse for whatever reason – perhaps they were horribly marketed, or were released so quietly you didn’t even realise they existed.

And over the past year, these are without question the most-ignored major movies – the 10 films that, whether good, bad, or middling, were watched by so few of us.

Despite the legendary franchises they belong to and the enormous awards hype they came to market with, these movies were all ignored by audiences at large.

Perhaps it’s the fault of the distributor for bungling their release, or maybe it’s simply a case of audiences – who are becoming pickier than ever with their trips to the cinema – not finding good enough reason to leave the house…

Though it was hyped throughout 2024 as a probable major awards player for Amy Adams, Nightbitch came and went without making much of a dent this past December.

The black comedy-horror film stars Adams as a stay-at-home mother who comes to believe that she’s turning into a dog at night – an amusingly edgy concept and one based on Rachel Yoder’s hit novel of the same name.

Despite all this clout and the reliable Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) serving as writer-director, Nightbitch received only a cursory, awards-qualifying theatrical release from Disney.

Even so, its global theatrical grosses totalled a mind-bogglingly low $170,737, and amid mixed reviews from critics and general audiences alike, Nightbitch quickly slid out of streaming charts following its recent debut on Hulu.

Though Adams did receive Golden Globe and Independent Spirit Award nominations for her committed performance, the film’s polarising nature ultimately ensured that few outside of the cineaste contingent actually bothered watching it.

An unfortunate fate for a film that many pegged as a fierce Oscar contender for much of last year.
